The "common data set" is a report most universities in the United States issued for every incoming class of students. These reports offer a range of general information regarding the academic performance of these students during their testing. The University of Michigan, for instance, highlights that 63% of the latest cohort chose to provide their SAT scores for admission (the majority of American universities accept the SAT or the ACT for undergraduate admissions). New Michigan students who recently completed the SAT exam showcased their academic prowess with impressive scores. The middle-50% score range, representing the 25th through the 75th percentiles, revealed their exceptional abilities. In the Evidence-Based Reading and Writing (EBRW) section, students scored 660 to 730.

Meanwhile, their scores ranged from 670 to 780 in the Math section. Around 55% of Michigan students achieved EBRW scores of 700 or above, whereas approximately two-thirds obtained scores of 700 or higher in Math. The admission rates at Michigan were low for students who received SAT section scores below 600. Students falling into this group accounted for less than 6% of the class regarding EBRW scores and 9% of the class regarding Math scores. Notably, a significant portion of these students were likely categorized as unique cases, such as athletes or children of potential donors. If you're a student or a parent looking to review testing data for a specific school, you'll typically find the institution's common data set readily available on the internet.
